Grid-tied solar is used to cut down your electric bill by mounting Solar panels on the roof and/or Ground in a south, east or west orientation. These orientations without any or minimal shading allows the panels to obtain the most adequate amount of energy from the sun. The panels harness direct current (DC) electricity. Electricity is then run to an inverter which turns the DC electricity into Alternating current (AC) electricity (Electricity your home uses). From the inverter, your electricity is then run and tied into your utility service, which is either connected into your main service panel, or in a junction box near your utility meter. From there, the electricity powers your home and sends electricity back into the grid. The utility places a new meter so they can net-meter, which helps them keep track of what you use and produce so they can adjust your bill accordingly. Depending on your Utility company, they may even send you a check for surplus production.
Grid-tied solar + battery backup is used to cut down electric bills and save power for power outages. Functions the same as a grid tied system, but adds batteries to your system to store energy for a later time. For example, at night or when a power outage occurs.
Off-grid solar is used in remote areas and for customers who want to be independent from their utility service. With an off-grid system, disconnect from your utility and have your own electrical generation system. In this type of system, solar panels capture the energy from the sun to power a battery bank. From the battery bank, DC electricity is drawn to an inverter to convert into AC electricity to power your house.

Steps in Going Solar

Customer sends most recent electric bill and address.
Gateway Solar LLC sends a quote, along with with a preliminary design, production, and savings forecast.
Meet to add any information, answer any questions, finalize design, figure out financing, and present contract.
Post Contract Signing
First payment due, 50% of system cost
Ordering of equipment
Schedule a date which works with the customer. It will be determined a month in advance for the installation of the system.
In the time leading up to the installation, Gateway Solar LLC will acquire any of the necessary permits and license's needed to begin installation.
Installation. This will take anywhere from 1-5 days, depending on the system's size. During which we will need access to your roof, attic, and home.
Next payment of 25% is due at the time of installation.
Depending on your county/city there possibly could be an inspection or two needed throughout the installation process.
Any final inspections needed will be scheduled and completed.
Commissioning of system with utility company: tends to be 2-4 weeks after installation.
After commissioning has taken place, your system is up and running.
Final payment of the last 25% is due at the time of commissioning.
